Best CLI apps and programs when SSH just works? Then there's Midnight commander, probably the best file manager in a command line.Ask HN: Is there other software similar to Vim and Emacs? IIRC the golden standard is midnight commander ( ), which is another old timer.Id say the best file management tool for Windows is Total Commander. `ls`, `cp`, `mv`, `rm`, and then a utility installed to have a CLI command for putting things in the trash instead of permanently deleting is pretty much all I need. It is free on Linux, very affordable on Windows and Mac.

Filter by these if you want a narrower list of alternatives or looking for a specific functionality of Total Commander. XYPlorer is available as a free 30-day trial version, costs 30 for a license. Total Commander alternatives are mainly File Managers but may also be FTP Clients or File Sync Tools. It's something I also had to do many times but never really requested it yet. Other interesting paid alternatives to Total Commander are XYplorer, Solid Explorer, oMega Commander and Path Finder. Hence sticky selection is basically a full alternative to normal selection with the Ctrl key.

If sticky selection supports what viktor is trying to do, he/she could easily drag select 1 to 10 and then drag select 25 to 30 again. With sticky selection, that's not possible and if you want to select those items, you will drag select 1 to 10 but then will have to individually select 25 to 30 which defeats the purpose of sticky selection since I still had to use the Ctrl button. What I mean is, I want to select files from line 1 to 10 and then 25 to 30. However, one thing that sticky selection does not have is the ability for you to have multiple multiple (yes it's intentional) selections. The purpose of the sticky feature is that it allows you to select multiple items without the need to always hold Ctrl down. The problem is that it kind of counters with the sticky selection feature. Far Manager, FreeComander, SpeedComander, Total Commander, TeraCopy, xplorer2, XYplorer). Is it so much more troublesome to drag with left-button than with the right one?
